Glass Animals members
The band is composed of Dave Bayley (singer/guitarist), Drew Macfarlane (guitarist/keyboardist), Edmund Irwin-Singer (bassist/keyboardist) and Joe Seaward (drums). Initially writing songs and music in his free time, Bayley recruited his childhood friend Seaward as well as Irwin-Singer and Macfarlane to form a band and play with him. While at university, the debut Glass Animals EP Leaflings was released in 2012, the EP quickly captured the attention of acclaimed producer Paul Epworth and Bayley decided against going to medical school to focus on the band as they signed to Wold Tone records.
The first Glass Animals album ZABA was released in 2014 and received universal praise thanks to songs like "Gooey", "Black Mambo", "Pools" and "Hazey". This album was followed by heavy touring, with the band playing over 130 shows in 2015 alone. Glass Animals then collaborated with US rapper Joey Bada$$ on the song "Lose Control" before the release of their second album.
How to be Human was released in 2016. It is more of a concept album based on stories the band heard while on tour, and which Bayley secretly filmed on his iPhone. Using these tales as lyrical inspiration for their album, each song tells the story of a different character. It features tracks like "Life Itself" and the heartbreakingly personal "Agnes" about losing a friend to drugs.
