Royal Blood background
Interestingly for a rock band, there are only two Royal Blood members - lead vocalist and bass guitarist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher. Having played together briefly when they were younger, the two-piece officially formed at the beginning of 2013 when Thatcher collected Kerr from the airport after a trip to Australia. Like most bands, the duo struggled to get a gig for a while but eventually were spotted and signed up by Warner/Chappell Music. Royal Blood quickly made their presence known, depsite just using two instruments, with Thatcher's pounding drums and Kerr's distorted bass guitar, as well as the group's evocative vocals. Arctic Monkeys' drummer Matt Helders wore a Royal Blood T-Shirt at their Glastonbury concert in 2013 and the group's upward trajectory was set firmly in motion. 2014 saw Royal Blood added on the influential BBC Sound of 2014 list and the duo opened for aforementioned Arctic Monkeys at the rock stars' massive Finsbury Park concerts. In just a couple of years, the band went from open mic nights to playing in front of thousands of fans. Get Royal Blood tickets and find out why.
