Tokyo Games in summer 2020: Canoeing—enjoy all the excitement you can get
Featuring two different disciplines, slalom and sprint, the exciting water sport of canoeing has been a fixture of the Games since Berlin in 1936. You can both buy and sell Tokyo Games 2021: Canoeing tickets on StubHub.
Germany: the most successful nation
Canoeing made its debut at the Games as a demonstration sport in Paris in 1924 before being accepted competitively in Berlin twelve years later. The sport features two different boat styles: kayaks, which can hold from one to four competitors, and canoes, which can hold one to two. The courses in both the slalom and sprint events are typically either 200, 500 or 1,000 metres long, although in the mid-20th century, the Games featured an event that stretched to an exhausting 10 kilometres. Germany has undoubtedly been the most successful nation in the event, winning thirty-two gold medals in total, with the Soviet Union and Hungary close behind with twenty-nine and twenty-five, respectively. Reigning champions include France’s Denis Gargaud Chanut in the men’s C-1 slalom, Spain’s Saul Craviotto and Cristian Toro in the men’s sprint K-2 200m and Hungary’s Danuta Kozák in the women’s K-2 500m.
